Quincy, IL – Sea kayaking will soon be available to Quincyans and visitors along Quincy’s natural bay and riverfront. Three daily two hour guided tours will begin from Bob Bangert Park twice a month from June to September. The tours will be conducted at 9AM, 1PM and a 5PM sunset tour. Scheduled Saturday tours dates are: June 14, 28, July 12, 26, August 9, 23 and September 13, 27.
Tours will be conducted by certified ACA instructor Kevin Dempsey who operates similar tours on the Mississippi in Louisiana, MO. Dempsey states, “The Quincy Bay is ideal for instructional tours with the natural island and river bridges allowing for interesting birding and wildlife viewings.” The Quincy Area Convention & Visitors Bureau also looks forward to a new partnership with the city of Louisiana, as both cities kayaking tours will be cross promoted together.
The Saturday tour dates in Quincy compliment the free Friday night Blues in the District concerts in Washington Park. “Blues in the District is a natural event to partner with in bringing in visitors to experience Quincy for the weekend,” said Holly Cain, Executive Director of the QACVB. “It is our intent that the guided kayaking tours will develop each year, and we will be able to lengthen the tours to Hannibal, opening up a natural water trail,” said Cain.
For more information or to reserve a guided river tour, contact Kevin Dempsey at 314-518-0950. The 2-hour guided tour of the Quincy Bay is $40 per person, which includes all equipment and certified instructor. Special lodging rates are available for the tours at www.seequincy.com or by contacting the QACVB at 1-800-978-4748.
