All America Park is located on seventeen
acres on the banks of Quincy Bay, at Front & Cedar Streets.
All America Park is home to the Antique Auto Museum. There is
a shelter house, picnic tables and restrooms available.
Berrian Park is located on twelve acres
at 14th & Chestnut. You can play on the outdoor basketball
court, tennis courts, baseball diamond, soccer field, horseshoe
pit, or the playground equipment. It is the perfect place for
a family reunion. There are shelter houses available with electricity,
grills and picnic tables. A nice restroom and drinking fountains
are also available. During the winter Berrian boasts of a perfect
sledding hill. Come and check it out. You'll be glad you did.
Bob Bangert Park is located on thirteen
acres on the North Bottom Road. It has a shelter house, picnic
tables, and restrooms. Fishing on the Mississippi is only footsteps
away. This park also has a boat launch with a great view.
Bob Mays Park consists of over fifty
acres of grassy hills and trees. The park is a great place for
a peaceful walk. Future development will include a walking path,
a prairie grass natural area, shelter house, play grounds and
athletic fields.
Boots Bush Park is located on fourteen
acres at 42nd & Maine Street. It hums with the activities
of soccer and baseball. Concessions are available as well as
drinking water and restrooms. You may want to bring your umbrella,
whether rain or shine, as shade is hard to find.
Clat Adams Bicentennial Park is located on two
acres at Front & Hampshire Streets. It has a beautiful scenic
view of green grass, flowers, and a gazebo with a nearby fountain,
to enhance the great view of the river. There is a boat launch
if you decide you'd like to take a spin on the Mississippi or
perhaps cast a line to see what you can catch. Drinking fountain
and restrooms are also available for your convenience. It has
served as a popular site for community activities such as the
4th of July fireworks display and Quincy's Riverfest. This is
a great place for a scenic sunset walk.
The Deer Park is located on five acres
on the grounds of the Illinois Veterans Home just Northwest
of Twelfth and Locust. A deer herd, peafowl, exotic cattle,
goats and the swans call the park home. There are picnic tables
and restrooms available as well as a playground and water fountain.
Completely renovated in 2005,
Edgewater Park is located
at Front and York Street. The park is beautifully landscaped
and features one of the best views of the river in the area.
Emerson Park is a four acre park at
1310 Washington. There is basketball (outdoor) court and playground.
The Emerson Community Center is located in the park. It houses
the Park District Office and has classrooms that are used for
various district programs.
Gardner Park is located on forty-three
acres at Third Street just North of Locust. It has a winding
scenic path throughout the park. There is a shelter house with
plenty of picnic tables as well as restrooms. An outdoor basketball
court and playground are perfect for family outings. For the
camper there is also a trailer dumping station.
Indian Mounds Park is located on thirty-seven
acres at 5th & Harrison. It is the location of Quincy's
first public swimming pool. There are picnic tables, drinking
fountains, and a concession stand for your convenience. Enjoy
the scenic view looking out over the Mississippi River provided
by this park located on a bluff.
Johnson Park is located on nine acres
at 18th & Harrison. It is a beautifully shaded park packed
with activities in a small area, yet still feels spacious. This
park has an outdoor basketball court, tennis courts, horseshoe
pits, soccer field, and baseball diamond, plus a newly updated
playground area. It has a shelter house with electricity, picnic
tables, and drinking water. Restrooms are available.
Kesler Park is located on eleven acres
on Bonansinga Drive just north of Clat Adams Bicentennial Park.
It is a lovely place for a stroll or family get together. A
shelter house with electricity and picnic tables are available
as well as a boat launch and boat docking facilities. Fishing
is a popular activity and the kids can play to their hearts
content on the playground equipment of this park. There is an
interpretive center that depicts six different flood stages
in Quincy's history along with a wooden deck with three informative
panels depicting Quincy Bay wildlife and the historical uses
of Quincy Bay. Come and check out this beautiful site.
Leon Bailey Park is located at 7th and
Elm, located across the street from the Lincoln-Jackson swimming
pool. Playground equipment is available for your enjoyment on
this one acre park.
Madison Park is located on nine acres
at 24th & Maine Streets. It has one shelter house with picnic
tables, electricity, restrooms, and a drinking fountain. You
have your choice of tennis courts or playground equipment. Every
year St. Peter's School holds its Arts in the Park activities
here at Madison Park. Several concerts are given here by the
Quincy Park Band.
MoorMan Park is located on a generous
eighty acres off North 39th Street. It boasts of more activities
than any other park in the city of Quincy. For the family there
is playground equipment, a batting cage, and miniature golf.
You will also find a concession stand, drinking fountains, restrooms,
and shelter houses complete with electricity, grills and ample
picnic tables. If you like water, there is a lake for fishing
or paddle boats. Every year a fishing derby takes place. The
view of the lake looking out to the park is breathtaking. For
the sports enthusiast there are baseball fields, tennis courts,
horseshoe pits, a disk golf course and an archery range. You
will also find a one mile long path around part of the park
for the walker or jogger. The only thing missing is swimming
and you can find that next door at Wavering Park. Come take
it all in. Life doesn't get any better than this.
Parker Heights Park is located on twenty-three
acres on North Bottom Road right across the street from Bob
Bangert Park. It has winding roads with a beautiful scenic view
perfect for a Sunday drive. Some picnic tables are available
for those who would like to stop and eat or just enjoy the peace
and quiet.
Quinssippi Island has one hundred and
thirty scenic acres. To get there you will need to go straight
through All America Park, located at Front and Cedar Streets
(the northwest corner of Quincy). Take the bridge over the water
to reach this wonderful island park.
Reservoir Park is located on eleven
acres at 24th & Chestnut. It features nine lighted tennis
courts. Many city and school tennis tournaments are held on
its courts. There is a historic stone shelter house build in
1939, complete with picnic tables, electricity, and a fireplace.
And for the "little one," there is the ever popular
playground. Enjoy plenty of shade trees as well as a wide open
area for playing Frisbee or for most any other activity.
Riverview Park is located on sixteen
acres at 2nd and Chestnut Streets. Its main attraction is a
breathtaking view of the river. A statue of George Rogers-Clark
overlooks the Mississippi River. It was re-dedicated in 1996.
There is also a shelter house with picnic tables, grills and
restrooms. For the family there is a basketball court and playground
equipment. This is one scenic view you don't want to miss.
South Park consists of 135 acres located
at 12th & Harrison Streets. It is a great summer and winter
park. It has ample sledding over the many rolling hills. In
the summer you can pitch horseshoes, play tennis, soccer, baseball,
or climb around on the playground equipment. There are three
shelter houses equipped with electricity, picnic tables, drinking
fountains, grills, and restrooms. You can have a leisurely picnic,
go fishing or take a walk on one of the many walking paths.
Sunset Park has fourteen acres of natural
beauty located at 3rd and Cedar. This park is popular for its
scenic view of the mighty Mississippi River and its wonderful
plant life.
The
Villa Kathrine is located on Gardner
Expressway. It houses Quincy's Tourist Information Center. Located
on a bluff overlooking the river, the villa is a Moorish-style
structure built in 1900 by the wealthy and eccentric George
Metz.
Washington Park has four acres right
in the heart of Quincy's district located on 5th Street between
Maine and Hampshire Streets. It boasts of being the first park
in the city of Quincy and a place of many historical events
throughout the years, one of which was the Lincoln Douglas Debate.
Picnic benches are available to relax on after you take a leisurely
stroll through the park. You will find a fountain in the center
of the park that makes for a beautiful scene, along with a band
stand. On Tuesdays and Saturdays, during the summer months,
the park is active with the Farmers Market. People from the
area come to sell their produce and wares. The first weekend
in May you'll find Washington Park buzzing with Dogwood activities.
Wavering Park is located on forty-seven
acres on the 1200 block of North 36th Street. Wavering Park
has a baseball /softball diamond, playground equipment, and
two shelter houses complete with electricity and drinking water.
Restrooms are also available. If you're wondering what to do
on a hot summer day check out the swimming facilities complete
with a waterslide, sand volleyball, and concessions.
Westview Golf Course is operated by
the Quincy Park District. A putting green, full service Pro
Shop, Snack Bar in the Clubhouse and a Snack stand on the course
are available.
Westview Park is located on twelve acres
at 30th & Harrison Streets. With its wide open area, it
is a great place for the baseball or soccer enthusiast. It has
nice open fields plus a kick back board for soccer. Restrooms
and drinking water are also available.
REGIONAL & STATE PARKS
Siloam Springs State Park is
located at 938 East 3003rd Lane in Clayton, IL. Nature's bounty
has conspired to produce a natural beauty and source of recreation
greatly prized by generations of Midwesterners at Siloam Springs
State Park, just minutes east of Quincy. The beautifully wooded
terrain, sparkling lake, and carefully maintained facilities
make this 3,323 acre site one of the most beautiful parks in
Illinois. It's an ideal setting for outdoor visits, whether
your interest is hunting, fishing, camping, boating, picnicking,
hiking or bird watching. The park is surrounded by luxuriantly
forested gullies and scenic crests alive with wild roses, black-eyed
Susans, white false indigo and snapdragons.
